500 years before the story of Saiyuki, a heretic child with golden eyes is brought into Heaven. He is given into the reluctant care of a minor deity named Konzen, the nephew of the Merciful Goddess Kanzeon Bosatsu. Konzen eventually gives the child the name "Goku". Goku becomes friends with two other minor gods, Marshal Tenpou and General Kenren of the Western Army of Heaven. He also meets a strange little boy who seems to be his own age, the War Prince Nataku. Although Goku is happy in his new home, Heaven is not kind to heretics. There are those who would use Nataku and Goku as tools in an attempt to seize the throne of Heaven, and Konzen, Tenpou, and Kenren may not be able to save them.

Priest Genjo Sanzo and companions Cho Hakkai, Sha Gojyo, and Son Goku maintain their westward journey to stop the resurrection of the demon Gyoumao. As the reputation of the Sanzo Ikkou precedes them, they continue to fight demon assassins at every turn, but they must also deal with increasing tensions within their group in order to defeat a powerful enemy.

Nishimi Kaoru has moved from city to city and school to school because of his father’s job, so having his first day at a new school was just routine for him. Being intellectual in addition to being a transfer student all the time, he has always been seen as an outcast. All he has had to do was bear it as usual until the next time he moved. Satirical series taking the format of a newspaper. It was among the first manga to be officially translated, with a portion published in a magazine by Concerned Theater Japan in 1971 along with the unrelated series, "Akame" and "Nejishiki".

The manga revolves around the Sakura household, which has since ancient times worked as sake brewers. One day the daughter of the household finds a katana in her family's warehouse and when she unsheathes it, the sword starts to shine. The title Sakura Juuyuushi is a play on words of Sanada Sakura Juuyuushi, a story of the group of 10 ninja who assisted the warlord Sanada Yukimura during the Warring States era of Japan.
